Recruiting More Workplace Knitters…

November 30, 2007 at 3:13 pm (Uncategorized)

I’ve been kintting on my hat pretty much exclusively at work. At home, I’m either dancing my butt off, or reading. I taught a coworker how to knit this summer, but she was not enthusiastic about moving past the knit stitch. She has made wash cloths galore and bath mats and now scarves….I taught her to purl but…she was not excited about it.

Until she saw my hat. So…I’ve brought her a loaner circ, written out the pattern (Bonnie Marie’s The Player hat with no color changes) in a very step-by-step manner…and at break today we will enter the unknown waters of circular knitting, purling, and eventually head toward decreases and dpns.

Another coworker saw me explaining the hat to her and said…that’s too hard, I can’t do that. I said, sure you can!  She had chastised me a bit when I brought the hat in the first time and they oohed and aahed and I was sort of dismissive..”oh, it’s not even wool…oh it’s really simple…oh blah blah..” and she looked at me and said, “Are you a knitting snob?” I was horrorstruck – and abashed. I suspect I am. This lil ol’ hat? It’s not “real” knitting.

She reminded me, yes it is too real knitting. I think I needed that.

The hat will be done today…I have plenty left on the skein for another, and a second skein in the wings. I will be trying some other uncomplicated hat patterns…but refuse to consider it Christmas knitting. I made myself CRAZY last year with that, not doing that again.

 Happy last workday of November!

Ahhhh, knitting again…

A simple hat… The Player pattern from ChicKnits, but no stripes…well, not intentional ones. I’m using the Moda Dea Tweedle Dee which is sort of a Kuryeon like stripe…but much cheaper, LOL, at 2 for $5 at Michaels!

I’ve had a few urges to cast on for something for a gift, but I’m resisting. No Christmas knitting…that’s this year’s motto. I’ve already completed way too many dishcloths for my sanity, and finishing them will be the last of the holiday knitting this year.

Still reading lots…Just finished book 2 of the Fever Series from Karen Moning…Found it in the Romance aisle which I normally avoid like the PLAGUE..but the first one, Darkfever, I found on an end cap and didn’t KNOW it was a romance, lol. Awesome series…so good I braved the romance aisle for the second installment and I’m longing for the third as yet unwritten one!

Also FINALLY got to read the most recent Kim Harrison, For a Few Demons More…just as excellent as I knew it would be…sigh.

Started today was the anthology “The Holidays are Hell” and as the first short short is a Kim Harrison early-days of Rachel story…I didn’t want to put it down when lunch was over!

Zee Knitting Mojo…eeet has returned!

November 21, 2007 at 9:01 pm (Uncategorized)

I got up this a.m. and it was cold. I mean really really cold.

And suddenly, I wanted to knit something. This is rather a miracle as I’ve been doing nothing but reading and dancing the last few weeks. I couldn’t rouse even a bit of enthusiasm for WIPs, or even new projects or even…this will tell you how bad it’s been….buying yarn. Not even interested in looking at yarn.

 Yep, it was bad.

But I’m all better now! On my lunch hour, I ran to Michael’s and bought two skeins of Moda Dea’s Tweedle Dee for hats!! Then I spent the next hour I should have been working, looking at bulky weight hat patterns on the internet and planning to go home and cast on….

I think I’m back to my old self!!

In the meantime, I have kept up with one blog and even that was sporadic. But…who can resist Chaos?? 🙂
