Well, of course!

Went to the doc yesterday about the “allergy” problem I’m having with my eye(s). Nope, it’s not allergies or pink eye..it’s a minor staph infection. I was lectured ad nauseum for letting it go as long as I had …. “Pain is your body’s signal something is WRONG and you should seek help…not that you should try all sorts of other things and finally when the pain is too much then seek medical attention!” Ahem. I think he was annoyed with me.  So now I’m on dandy antibiotics and told if it is not much improved in a week to bring myself back into his office thankyouverymuchyoucrappypatient!

So…I got through the ribbing on Koolhaus and started row 1 of the cable chart this a.m. It’s not hard, really. I “get” it. I just can’t seem to concentrate very well at all right now and my son was on a talking jag…and I balled it up and stuffed it in my bag. Brought it to work…hopefully break time will be quieter and I can fix my attention on something for more than 30 seconds…

Finally finished reading the preliminary stuff before the “meat” of week 1 in The Artist’s Way. It’s a lot to digest. Like the 7 Habits…I find that yeah…I could read it pretty fast…but I seem to need to take it slower for retention and application.

One of my cool gifts was a small photo frame/LED digital picture frame..you know, you put the memory card from your camera in and it plays your pictures? I put my memory card in…and there are pictures in there from oh….May. That’s how long it’s been since I downloaded any pics off my camera. OY. Now that I have a new computer I’ll have to load the camera software on it and get on the ball…

The Day After Christmas…

December 26, 2007 at 2:23 pm (Uncategorized)

I asked for no knitterly gifts this year….ergo…I received none. I did recieve some lovely things – a couple of collectibles and many well thought out gifts. I had some kind o’ raging eye “thing” going on tho, couldn’t wear one of my contacts and had horrible pain in the eye…very distracting from holiday cheer let me tell ya. Seems to be down to about 3% of what it was tho…so I’m here at work for another fun-filled day, woot!

 Me, sarcastic? nah.

I cast on for the Koolhaus hat…and got two rows into the ribbing. I kept thinking, this does not look right. After the first row I thought, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong here…but this is not right. I counted. I checked. Hmmm. I did another row. I looked really carefully (with my one eye) at the picture on the pattern and realized….I’d read the *K1 P2 K1*  as *K1 P2* Doh. Can I just blame the eye? Can I add in there Jodie was working and I was trapped in the house with sugared up children who were making me nuts? Geez.

I’ve begun working on The Artist’s Way…Very interesting stuff. More about that as time goes on….

While I Wait For Knitter’s Almanac to Arrive…

December 24, 2007 at 2:55 pm (Uncategorized)

I downloaded Koolhaus to keep me busy. Can I just say how pleased I am that IK put it up for purchase as a single pattern? Works great for those like me who don’t subscribe – because they knit something out of it maybe 1-2 x a year. I know..the articles…the style…blah blah. I just don’t use them enough to warrant a subscription or usually even a purchase . I have PLENTY of worsted in the stash to make several of these if I like the pattern…and it seems from webland that many people like it enough to knit it more than once so….we shall see.

I finished the baby genius scarf last night, needs the ends woven and needs to soak and be blocked. I like it well enough…tho I still think it needed more contrast than the yarns I chose. I’m considering knitting a second and actually already have the yarn…but then I saw several pics of Brooklyn Tweed’s newest Noro scarf…the one in two colors of Noro and in a 1 x 1 rib…I love that scarf. I mean I seriously love it. There’s only one problem….I do not see myself FINISHING a 5 or 6 foot scarf in 1 x 1 rib. I just know myself better than that. So I will likely stick with another baby genius.

Wow. Can I just say, can Jared knit or WHAT? I also printed off the Red Light Hat pattern…because I have a LOT of Rowan yarn I purchased for the ill-fated idea I was going to make a Starmore vest….You know the movie Meet The Robinsons? There is a running joke through the movie where the villan is told several times he didn’t think this plan out too well…well, that is the Starmore. Like my attention span is remotely close to doing anything Starmore, sheesh! But, truthfully I didn’t really know that then. Boy do I know it now.

And, since I am working on money issues….stash knitting it is. I owe a couple people $…and it sits very poorly with me. It was circumstance and necessity and it is what it is….but it blocks me emotionally and creatively and weighs on my heart. So…I’ve just been making up my mind to pay them off and that’s what I’m doing, albeit a lot slower than I would like. So….STASH KNITTING!! Hoo RAH! 🙂

The mitten decision…

December 21, 2007 at 3:55 pm (Uncategorized)

I finally decided to make the Norwegian Mittens from Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Knitter’s Almanac.  I ordered the book from Powell’s and when I get it…I’ll cast on!

If those are successful and don’t make me crazy, I may try the Bird in Hand by Kate Gilbert and work my way up to Anemoni.

Reading “The 7 Habits” by Stephen Covey. I read this many moon ago…like ten years ago….but I’m revisiting. Apparently, I’ve forgotten it all because it all seems new to me, lol.  For fun, I’m also re-reading Tanya Huff’s series that was recently made into a cable show, Blood Ties. Apparently, I’ve forgotten it too, because none of it seems very familiar at all! Normally, I can’t read a book (fiction anyway) twice. I just can’t. So, apparently a good 5-10 years is all it takes for me to forget everything.

I toyed with the idea of making my own stitch markers, as I have a few pretty ones (gifts, all) but not as many as I’d like. Then I thought, yeah…sure. In your “spare time”. Of which you have NONE. So I’m perusing Esty to just purchase a set…my Christmas present to me.

End ‘o year reflection and knitting angst

December 20, 2007 at 9:53 pm (Uncategorized)

I’m having a crabby holiday…too much work, too little fun, waaaay too much stress. Jodie takes the kids out for a couple hours so I can have a bit of time alone and I thought, I know what always makes me feel better, I’ll cast on something new!! So…I went out and looked around the stash awhile. The more I looked, the more I felt guilty. I finally decided I would be happier finishing something in progress than starting something new. So I drug out the scarf I HAD to start after seeing the “baby genius scarf” that was on line for awhile. Noro and lamb’s pride…I loved it…but I became disgruntled when I realized there was not enough contrast between the solid and the variegated yarn to please me….I got one skein of noro into it and shoved it. So…I hauled it out and began anew on it. I like it again. I’m not in love with it – but I like it.

As we come close to the end of the year, I am disappointed I made so few of my knitting goals come true. Back to too much work and really loading the dancing on top of it. Now I run TWO troupes, teach two classes, have private students almost every night…and my knitting time went way, way downhill.

So…there you have it. I’m unsatisfied. I’m looking at working on more goal setting for the coming year – in fact, I’m also working on creativity in dance….and some of the suggestions offered were to work with  Color and Texture…and I thought, well DUH, KNITTING!!!!
